Gua sha video courses: follow along, area by area

Gluvy shows you how to use a gua sha stone on your face and neck, one area at a time. About 34 follow-along courses cover the angle, pressure and order of every stroke.

Free to download for iPhone. Gluvy Pro unlocks every course.

Gua sha is easier to learn by watching

The details that make gua sha comfortable, like holding the stone almost flat, gliding in one direction and starting at the neck, are hard to get from a diagram. Gluvy's courses show each stroke on video while a timer counts down.

Neck and routines

Neck courses, a morning de-puffing combo and slower evening routines that pair gua sha with relaxation.

What a gua sha course looks like

  1. Prepare

Cleanse and apply facial oil so the stone glides. The course reminds you before the first stroke.

  2. Follow each stroke

Usually 3 to 6 short steps, each with a video, a one-line tip and a countdown, from the neck upward.

  3. Switch sides

Many courses have a left and a right version, so both sides of the face get the same strokes.

The basics, before your first session

  • Hold the stone at about 15–45° to the skin, almost flat
  • Glide outward in one direction, 3–5 strokes per area
  • Light pressure: it should never hurt or leave marks
  • Skip broken, irritated or sunburned skin

The full technique is in our guide on how to use a gua sha stone on your face. Gua sha also pairs well with face yoga and jawline exercises.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app that teaches gua sha?

Yes. Gluvy has about 34 guided gua sha courses on iPhone. Each one is a step-by-step video with a timer, so you can copy the angle, direction and pace.

Do I need a special gua sha stone for the app?

Any flat facial gua sha stone with a curved edge and a notched edge works. The courses show which edge to use for each area.

How often should I do gua sha?

Beginners usually start with about three sessions a week of 5 to 10 minutes, then build up if the skin stays calm. Our step-by-step gua sha guide covers frequency and safety.

Does gua sha get rid of puffiness?

Many people find that gentle gua sha makes their face feel less puffy and more refreshed, especially in the morning. There's little rigorous research on facial gua sha, so we don't promise specific or lasting results.

Is gua sha safe for everyone?

Avoid gua sha on active acne, infections, sunburn, cuts, rashes or areas with recent cosmetic treatments, and ask a dermatologist first if you have a skin condition.
